Google is an American company that originated as a search engine platform, but has since expanded into many different internet and technology-based services and products. The company has seen a rapid growth into everything from online advertising, cloud computing, and software to telecommunications and consumer electronics through acquisitions of companies and it's own expansions. Google has become synonymous with internet-based search and has selected Austin as one of it's pioneer cities for it's new Google Fiber network. Google employs nearly 60,000 workers globally and has a 300,000 square foot office at 500 W. 2nd Street in downtown Austin which will consolidate two of their current three Austin locations into the new building. The Google Fiber space will remain at the former Austin Children's Museum downtown. The Google offices in Austin focus primarily on sales, marketing, and staffing. Google also plans to occupy a 35-story, 723,000 sqft building at Block 185 set to open in 2023 in Downtown Austin.
