VISA is a global payments and financial services technology company that has become synonymous with credit card transactions. VISA enables individual consumers, businesses, governments, and banks to use digital currency in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide. VISA processes electronic funds transfers throughout the world, mostly through credit and debit cards. VISA provides financial institutions with payment products that they use to offer credit and debit programs to their customers. Therefore, the company does not extended credit or set rates and fees directly. The VISA Company was founded in 1958 originally as the BankAmericard credit card program through Bank of America in Fresno, California. In 1970, Bank of America gave up control of the BankAmericard program. In summation, the various issuer banks resolved in bringing the card under a single network with a single name internationally that wasn't associated with Bank of America and renamed the card company VISA in 1976. VISA currently processes over 13,000 transactions per second. VISA now employs almost 9,000 globally. VISA Austin employs 800 workers at it's offices located at 12301 Research Blvd. Austin, TX 78759
