Located east of Circle C Ranch, off of Brodie Lane, south of Slaughter Lane. The first home in Shady Hollow was constructed in Section 1 in 1972. Development and construction of Section 2/Phase 1 followed in the mid-1970's. At that time, Austin Savings and Loan, the developer, planned to build succeeding sections with much higher lot densities that advertised - double what had been planned. For this reason, you will see some lots sizes in Shady Hollow are much larger (1 acre) and some are smaller around .20 acres. As a response to the developer wanting to pack more homes in, homeowner's formed an Association to challenge the developer. Eventually, negotiations resulted in 1,309 homes being built, more than the original 800, but fewer than the 1,600 the developer wanted. As an additional concession, the Shady Hollow developer built the trails, parks, tennis courts, basketball courts, and swimming pool which all had not been in the original plans.

This tale leads into what makes Shady Hollow such an amazing place to live! Shady Hollow has an incredible community and is one of the most child-friendly neighborhood's you'll see in Austin. Kids bike through the streets on their way to Capistrano Pool and park. There are tennis courts, basketball courts, and one of the largest pools and diving areas you will see in any neighborhood. Shady Hollow also features a 4th of July parade through the neighborhood where fire engines and police drive down and wave to the huge crowds of people. Barbecues, pool parties, picnics, and more. Word spreads and have generated Shady Hollow into one of the most desirable neighborhoods of South Austin.

Even today, the Shady Hollow HOA is very active and is one of the most well-operated in Austin. The homes in Shady Hollow are very well taken care of for their ages and there is an extreme pride of ownership among it's residents. There are many activities, parties, weddings, and banquets held at the David C. Ellis Community Center and several clubs for resident's. If you have children there are many in-neighborhood parks to choose from: Capistrano Park, Doe Run Park, Gatling Gun Park, and Shady Hollow West Park! Just outside of Shady Hollow is the Slaughter Creek Metro Park, Grey Rock Golf Club, and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

There are many other neighborhoods within the broader Shady Hollow community along Brodie Lane just south of the main Shady Hollow neighborhood. Estates of Shady Hollow or Shady Hollow Estates features the highest price range of the Shady Hollow homes for sale. Estates of Shady Hollow feature mostly 1-2.5 acre lots and has an average size of almost 3,000 sqft. These properties were built from 1984 to 2001, but most were built from 1992-1994. Shady Hollow West is a small section that features homes built by new home builder David Weekley Homes. These homes were built from 1999 to 2002. Barker Ranch at Shady Hollow is the southern most section and features lot sizes from 1/3 of an acre to 3/4 acre. Barker Ranch at Shady Hollow homes for sale were built by Kimball Hill Homes and Lennar Homes from 2002 to 2005 and have an average size of almost 3,200 sqft. All of the Shady Hollow communities sell very well as each offer some of the best of what South Austin has to offer.

Shady Hollow features some of the best schools in all of Austin. As part of the Austin School District, the children of Shady Hollow attend Baranoff Elementary SchoolM Bailey Middle School, and Bowie High School. All schools are highly-rated and "Texas Monthly" magazine ranked Bowie as a 5-star school. Bowie has received numerous Gold performance and Recognized School Awards from the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
