Located east of Circle C Ranch, off of Brodie Lane, south of Slaughter Lane. The first home in Shady Hollow was constructed in Section 1 in 1972. Development and construction of Section 2/Phase 1 followed in the mid-1970's. At that time, Austin Savings and Loan, the developer, planned to build succeeding sections with much higher lot densities that advertised - double what had been planned. For this reason, you will see some lots sizes in Shady Hollow are much larger (1 acre) and some are smaller around .20 acres. As a response to the developer wanting to pack more homes in, homeowner's formed an Association to challenge the developer. Eventually, negotiations resulted in 1,309 homes being built, more than the original 800, but fewer than the 1,600 the developer wanted. As an additional concession, the Shady Hollow developer built the trails, parks, tennis courts, basketball courts, and swimming pool which all had not been in the original plans.
This tale leads into what makes Shady Hollow such an amazing place to live! Shady Hollow has an incredible community and is one of the most child-friendly neighborhood's you'll see in Austin. Kids bike through the streets on their way to Capistrano Pool and park. There are tennis courts, basketball courts, and one of the largest pools and diving areas you will see in any neighborhood. Even today, the Shady Hollow HOA is very active and is one of the most well-operated in Austin. The homes in Shady Hollow are very well taken care of for their ages and there is an extreme pride of ownership among it's residents. Shady Hollow West is a small section that features homes built by new home builderDavid Weekley Homes. These homes were built from 1999 to 2002. Barker Ranch at Shady Hollow is the southern most section and features lot sizes from 1/3 of an acre to 3/4 acre. Barker Ranch at Shady Hollow homes for sale were built by Kimball Hill Homes and Lennar Homes from 2002 to 2005 and have an average size of almost 3,200 sqft.
